September 2025
Autumn is a time for action! And Dufferin-Caledon is the place where action is needed now.
As school starts up again and folks get back into the swing of things following a wonderful summer, it is hard to believe that our calendar is filling up so fast with items that need your attention. There are so many issues in our lovely riding that picking and choosing your top priorities is essential-you can’t do it all - BUT we can, together!
I feel so fortunate to live in a riding where people really care about what is happening locally and are willing to act on behalf of us all. Please remember to do what you can to support these amazing groups and individuals as they do their best to inform us and protect us. | would hope to name all of our amazing local players, but | probably cannot so here are a few that | would like to send a shout out to in this issue (in no particular order):
Democracy Caledon - Thank you!
Democracy Caledon is a volunteer group dedicated to ensuring an open, democratic, public-inclusive process for municipal decision making in Caledon.
Melancthon Against Quarries - Thank you!
This group has picked up where NDACT has left off. Strada is back again pushing for more development of their quarry at the headwaters of the Pine, Boyne, and Grand rivers, near Shelburne, Dufferin. This time they are proposing a blasting quarry below the water table. We have until November 10th to voice our opposition, so please set your pens and take a look at the great letter writing app this group has put together!
The Save Swan Lake Team - Thank you!
Alongside Democracy Caledon, this group is focused on stopping the proposed filling of Swan Lake in Caledon with fill that will destroy the ecosystem that has been established in this rehabilitated gravel pit. Their September 21st event at Belain Farm in Caledon was well attended by both residents of Dufferin-Caledon and the media!
Forks of the Credit Preservation Group - Thank you!
The Forks of the Credit Preservation Group (FCPG) achieved a major victory in March 2025 as the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) dismissed aggregate producer CBM’s appeal and upheld the Town of Caledon’s Aggregates Reform Interim Control By-Law (ICBL) which helps to push back against the proposed blasting quarry in Caledon. Unfortunately, more recently, the Town of Caledon’s proposed new aggregate policies have seen pushback from the Ministry of Municipal Housing and Affairs and so the Town’s policies have not yet been signed off by Minister Rob Flack. The FCPG continues to advocate for these proposed new policies in an effort to stop the proposed quarry.
Headwaters Stops the 413 - Thank you!
Headwaters Stops the 413 hosted the “Stop the Premier’s Power Grab — Rally to Repeal Bills 5 & 17” alongside Grandmothers Save the Planet (GASP) and EcoCaledon in Orangeville this July. More recently, members of the group continued to pressure the Ford government with their banner waving and attendance at the international plowing match in Niagara. Bill 5 & Stop the 413 coverage starts around the 1.25 mark.
Mono-Mulmur Citizens Coalition - Thank you!
MC2 has been active in Mono and Mulmur since 1988 representing the citizens of Mono and Mulmur (and sometimes Melancthon) and working to keep members fully informed about what is happening in their communities. Don't miss their upcoming Mulmur Town Hall on October 18th regarding the Melancthon quarry.
Please see our calendar of events for a quick look at what is happening (scroll down for future events) and please reach out to me at president.goo@dcgreens.ca if there is an event you would like to add to our calendar.
Thanking you for ALL that you do!
