Green Wave: Action Update!

The Caledon Blasting Quarry and Greenbelt Development fights continue as Our Bill 97 pushback efforts are rewarded!

Forks of the Credit Preservation Group Needs our Help: STOP the CBM - CALEDON BLASTING QUARRY.

A billion dollar Brazilian conglomerate, Votorantim Cementos, owner of CBM St Mary’s, wants to blow up our farmland with a huge mega quarry, blasting 80' in to the ground below the water table, in the heart of our beautiful Caledon Greenbelt, in the Credit River Watershed, next to the Niagara Escarpment, a World Biosphere Reserve. Everything will be affected; our water, the air, our wildlife corridors with truck traffic, roads, tunnels, fly rock, dust, noise, vibration... The negative impacts are massive for our residents and the local environment.

The Forks of the Credit Preservation Group is working hard to stop this Quarry, but it is difficult with the speed that this proposal (Notice of Application: CBM - Caledon Quarry) is moving at.

The first Public Meeting: June 20, 2023 | Meeting start time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Caledon East Community Complex - Hall A and B. 6215 Old Church Road, Caledon, ON L7C 1J7

This is an opportunity to show the Mayor, Town of Caledon Councillors, Sylvia Jones and the Ford Provincial Government that Caledon does not want this disruptive, destructive mega BLASTING QUARRY! As many people and organizations as possible are needed to attend! If you are planning to attend, please let us know. Here's the link with information on how to register to speak at the council meeting remotely.

Another Community Meeting has been planned, in advance of the council meeting, for Wednesday, JUNE 14, 2023 at the ALTON LEGION 7:00 p.m. More info

Bill 97 extends public feedback to August 4 and drops lot severance option

Our voices are being heard as Doug Ford's Bill 97, allowing unprecedented sprawl on agricultural land, has extended public feedback from June 5th to August 4.  Ford's government has also dropped its lot severance option allowing farm owners to build up to 3 homes on each farm lot.

Continue the pushback with either an email protest to your local rep and Housing Minister Clark:

You can use Ontario Nature's letter writing tool here or submit a comment directly at the Environmental Registry of Ontario here (Deadline: August 4, 2023)

As a reminder, some of the deeply concerning changes of Bill 97 are:

  • weakening and eliminating existing policies that address climate change and rein in urban sprawl

  • removing municipalities' right to undertake watershed planning

  • allowing  municipalities to expand settlement areas without a comprehensive review of infrastructure needs or potential impacts on farmland and natural areas

  • exempting lands under MZOs (Minister's Zoning Orders) from complying with  provincial policies and official plans.

Thanks so much for your time and efforts!
