Supporting the right candidates!

With the municipal election date of October 24 looming, many people ask themselves: “who shall I vote for?” For Provincial and Federal elections, party affiliation is obviously a good guideline. At the municipal level, party affiliations are typically unknown or non-existent. Sometimes candidates give a hint where they stand, such as an Orangeville mayoral candidate copying the sign style and colours of Donald Trump:)

Here is a, certainly incomplete, list of candidates that have been identified by us as those who share “green values”. The key municipality within the boundaries of the Dufferin-Caledon Greens Association is Caledon. While the Ford government bulldozes (pun intended) over municipal decisions, a united front of municipalities inside the route of the proposed Highway 413 opposing this project may help block this destruction of farmland. Alas, it has been only Caledon supporting the highway. A new mayor and council are required to change that attitude.

So, let’s start with Caledon:

Mayor: Annette Groves

Ward 1: Kate Hepworth

Ward 2: Hunar Kahlon or Jagraj Sekhon or Dave Sheen

Ward 3: Doug Maskell

Ward 4: Cheryl Connors

Ward 6: Luceria Chiapetta

Regional Wards 1,2,3: Ramat Gill

Shelburne:

Deputy Mayor: Steve Anderson

Councillor: Alethia O'Hara-Stephenson

Melancthon:

Mayor: Darren White

However, above all, GO OUT TO VOTE! The voter turnout for the recent Provincial election was dismal, can we afford to go even lower? There are millions of people on this planet literally dying to be able to vote and we throw that essential right away. Thank you!
